Sportsbooks Double Down on Bonuses and App Innovation
16 September 2026
Sportsbooks are ramping up their promotional spending in 2026, offering bigger and more diverse welcome bonuses to lure in new players. But that's just one front in an escalating competition for bettor loyalty. The other: state-of-the-art mobile betting apps with personalized features, cross-brand rewards, and seamless user experiences.
The latest welcome offers are eye-popping. Fanatics is giving new users $350 in FanCash when they bet just $20. FanDuel promises $350 in bonus bets for bettors who place $50 wagers over seven days. BetMGM is doling out $1,000 in no-sweat tokens spread across 10 days. And DraftKings is matching a $5 wager with $200 in bonus bets for new users.
But that's just the opening salvo. Welcome bonuses have evolved far beyond the classic "bet and get" offers of the past. Operators are structuring promos as multi-day experiences. FanDuel, for instance, spins its welcome bonus as a five-day reset-token challenge. Fanatics' FanCash is awarded in pieces over several betting days. And Caesars is giving new users 10 chances to double their winnings with a qualifying bet.
This shift reflects sportsbooks' growing emphasis on customer lifetime value rather than just acquisition. "The promotional war has become more of a marathon than a sprint," writes Raz Shaw, gambling analyst at RG. "Ongoing rewards and personalization are the new competitive advantages."
The Fanatics Sports & Casino app, launched this month, illustrates the trend. The unified platform combines betting, gaming, and merchandising into one personalized experience, complete with geo-aware state compliance. Fanatics' FanCash can be used across the entire brand ecosystem - a powerful differentiator.

Similarly, FanDuel's new Rewards Club gives users points for each bet, which can be redeemed for perks ranging from $10 bonus bets at the start to $5,000 betting credits for the most engaged players. The company also launched FanDuel+, a $20/month subscription that bundles odds boosts, early access content, and other premier privileges.
Even DraftKings has launched an AI-driven in-play betting interface that surfaces personalised prop bets based on each user's historical wagering data and favorites.
However, it's important for bettors to make sure to read the fine print. Many bonuses come with qualifying requirements, time constraints, and opt-in steps. The maximum advertised value often requires multiple qualifying wagers over several days. And bonus bets or promotional credits can't be withdrawn as cash – a win only returns the winnings, not the bets themselves.
But as the promotions and apps get more sophisticated, it's clear that sportsbooks are leaving nothing off the table in their battle for bettor loyalty. The question is: will their escalating spending pay off in repeat business, or is this a race to the bottom? With the NFL season in full swing, the result is sure to be one of the most watched numbers of the sports betting year.
